Learning to Be Your Own Hype Woman (And Why It Changes Everything)

Becoming your own hype woman sounds simple in theory, but in practice? It’s one of the hardest things you can do.

Our minds are constantly running with a non-stop stream of thoughts. While a few of those thoughts are positive, so many of them tend to be self-critical. We spend our days comparing ourselves to everyone around us—whether it's people we know in real life or strangers we scroll past on social media. We critique our progress, our looks, and our achievements before anyone else even gets the chance.

Learning to shift that inner narrative is what unlocks a whole new level of unshakable confidence. But here’s the truth: it is a constant work in progress.

The Reality of the Roller Coaster

I’ll be the first to admit that I struggle with this every single day. Being your own biggest supporter isn't a switch you flip once and forget about—it’s a daily decision, and some days are much harder than others.

There are days when I fall short, get caught up in self-doubt, and am completely hyper-critical of myself instead of being my own hype woman. And that’s okay. Realizing that self-love is a roller coaster with high days and low days is actually part of the process.

How to Start Rewriting the Narrative

If you're tired of being your own worst critic, here are three small shifts that help rebuild that inner relationship:

  1. Catch the Critique: You can't change your self-talk until you notice it. When a critical thought pops up, pause and ask yourself: "Would I ever say this out loud to a friend I love?" If the answer is no, don't say it to yourself.

  2. Celebrate the Small Wins: Being a hype woman isn't just for big milestones like launching a business or hitting a huge goal. Hype yourself up for showing up, making your bed, taking a break when you needed it, or choosing peace over chaos.

  3. Replace Comparison with Connection: When you catch yourself comparing your journey to someone on social media, shift the thought from "Why am I not there yet?" to "If it's possible for them, it's possible for me too."

The Takeaway

Shifting how you speak to yourself won't happen overnight, but every time you catch a negative thought and replace it with a little grace, you’re building a foundation of real confidence. One of the easiest ways to start rewiring that inner voice is by building a daily habit—like shuffling The Inner Glow Affirmation Card Deck each morning, pulling a single card, and letting that message be your grounding truth for the day when the noise gets too loud.
